About

Teaching studentsHi there, I'm Clinton (Clint) R. Lanier. I'm a professor of technical communication and the director of web communication at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in Socorro, NM. We're kind of a lonely island, but we're a top-tier research institution that makes some amazing scientific contributions to the world.

My work focuses on the intersections of digital technology and communicaition. My background is in rhetoric (the art of finding every available means of pursuasion--Aristotle) and technical and professional communication, so my view and approach to web design, social media and digital marketing is a bit different than most.

I am an active consultant for private industry and the government, and provide insights into how businesses and officials can better engage and communicate with their customers and constituents.

I'm pretty active in staging training, development and seminars during my summer break from teaching (mid-May through mid-August). I also use that time for research and to catch up on the writing that I never seem to get to during the semester. I'm currently working on a book about fully integrating social media into a business' external communication strategy.

When I'm not at the keyboard I can usually be found chasing after my 4-year old daughter or my new baby, or going hiking or biking with my wife. We live in sunny Las Cruces, New Mexico.
